Trump Appoints Scott Turner as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

Scott Turner

President-elect Donald Trump selects Scott Turner-a former player with the Washington Redskins and a Texas state legislator-to the position of Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

Turner currently leads the Center for Educational Opportunity, having served previously as the executive director at the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council.

Trump said on Friday that Scott-a former NFL veteran-was the first executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council during his first term. He was an instrumental leader in an extraordinary effort to help the most underserved communities in our country.

Trump said this was made better, under Scott’s management, with the help of former HUD Secretary Ben Carson. He managed the collaboration of 16 federal agencies, using more than 200 policy measures to enhance economic growth. Under Scott’s management, Opportunity Zones saw over $50 billion in private investment!

Turner Considers his Nomination for HUD Secretary.

Scott Turner served during the first part of the Trump presidency as the director of the WHORC, which its website says was established to help “disadvantaged communities nationwide.”.

Trump also highlighted Turner’s extensive community involvement, pointing out, “Scott founded and leads his family’s charitable organization, the Council for Engagement and Opportunity, or CEOC, to revitalize communities across America through sports, mentorship, and economic empowerment. He serves on the board of the Cornerstone Institute of America and serves as associate pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church.

Trump seemed to place confidence in Turner, stating “Scott will work with me to make America great for all Americans.” Great for Scott and his wonderful wife Robin, and his son Solomon!

Turner thanked Trump for the nomination via X (formerly Twitter) and gave a shout-out to former HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson whom he called a mentor.

Turner was humble when responding to the nomination. Dr. Carson represents compassion and kindness to the best of nearly anyone, and I know I have big shoes to fill. The forgotten people of this country have been remembered during the Trump administration over the past four years, and I pledge to continue that.
